Supplemental Resource

Student attendants were also given a supplemental booklet entitled “Beyond Scholarships & Academics: It’s Not ALL Academics” that was compiled by Dr. Iburia Hall-HaynesThey were encouraged to create their own Personal Survival Toolkits (PSTK). The resource informs students that after being accepted into college and receiving scholarship support, they should equip themselves with a PSTK. This toolkit consists of at least six key categories: personal documentsacademic preparedness, life skills, career and future readinessemotional support, and financial preparedness resources.

This resource includes optional spiritual elements—such as prayers and meditation suggestions—for those who find them meaningful. However, not everyone connects with these practices, and that is completely okay. Students were encouraged to explore the categories that support their needs and simply skip any sections that do not resonate. Life after high school can feel both exciting and overwhelming. The PSTK helps students get and stay organizedbuild confidence, prepare for challenges and opportunities ahead.
