40 Years

The 40th Anniversary of the Vickie Lynn Belk Scholarship was celebrated on Saturday, June 11, 2022, at Oakland Baptist Church. Approximately 15 former recipients attended the event, and several addressed the audience and expressed the significance of receiving the Vickie Belk Scholarship. “Together, We Can”.

Nya Bradshaw was the sole recipient for 2022. She was awarded a $5,000.00 scholarship.

Nya Danaye Bradshaw

Nya Danaye Bradshaw

Ms. Nya Bradshaw is a former student at West Potomac High school, Alexandria, VA.   She plans to attend Hampton University in Hampton, Virginia.  As a member of Oakland Baptist Church, Nya has been involved in the Cherubs Choir, Dance Ministry and Christmas Play. She is also a member of: the Black Student Union, College Partnership Program, & Future Business Leaders of America

Ms. Bradshaw’s counselor says: “Nya is a leader and not a follower. She knows who she is and what she stands for, and she challenges herself daily to become the best version of herself. She is passionate about her future, self-love, creating positive relationships, equality, balance, faith, Black history, progression, excellence, and positivity”. The program highlighted Nya’s achievements and aspirations. Several of the previous recipients provided updates and testimonials regarding their experiences since receiving the VBSF scholarship.
