The Vickie Lynn Belk Scholarship Foundation (VBSF) was created to honor Vickie Belk and to provide scholarships in her memory.
Vickie attended Minnie Howard Elementary School and graduated from T. C. Williams High School in 1969. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education in 1974 from St. Augustine College in Raleigh, NC and she was a Management Analyst in the Office of Operations and Finance in the Department of Agriculture in Washington, D.C.
The role of the VBSF Board is to assist in raising funds for graduating seniors at Oakland Baptist Church (OBC) in Alexandria, VA and provide opportunities that continue the legacy of Vickie Lynn Belk.
Approximately 100 scholarships have been awarded to the graduates of OBC. Through this scholarship, Vickie’s love for education and the youth of OBC continues.

Congratulations Jadah!
The Vickie Belk Scholarship Foundation (VBSF) would like to congratulate Jadah Martin on her recent graduation from Radford University.
Graduating from Radford University is quite an accomplishment. Only 50% of those enrolled will graduate and earn a degree.
Jadah is a recent VBSF scholarship recipient and active member of Oakland Baptist Church (OBC). She is the daughter of Deaconess Marissa Martin, a true servant of God and leader at OBC. Jadah is making significant contributions to OBC and the community. She is also a two-time recipient of the Vickie Belk Scholarship.

The Vickie Belk Scholarship Foundation participated in Oakland Baptist Church’s (OBC) Back-to-School Initiative on Sunday, August 20, 2023.

On Sunday, June 25, 2023, three students were awarded scholarships from the VBSF. The recipients were Nya Bradshaw, Jordan Johnson and Jadah Martin.

About the 2023 Recipients
Nya Bradshaw is in her second year at Hampton University in Hampton, Virginia. She has maintained a 3.6 GPA as she continues her work with the William R. Harvey Leadership Institute Fellow, the American Association of Airport Executives and the Girls Rule Organization. Nya is also on the Dean’s List at Hampton University.
Jordan Johnson is a student at Savannah College of Art and Design in Savannah, GA. She maintained a 4.0 GPA and is a member of the Dean’s List. She has also received a Citizenship Award and Youth Artist of the Month Award.
Jadah Martin is a student at Radford University in Radford, Virginia. She plans to graduate in December 2023. She maintains a 3.2 GPA and is involved in the Children’s Church at Oakland Baptist Church. She is also a Volunteer Deaconess Assistant.
40 Years Celebration
On June 11, 2022, the 40th Anniversary of the Vickie Lynn Belk Scholarship was celebrated. Approximately 15 former recipients attended the event, and several addressed the audience and expressed the significance of receiving the Vickie Belk Scholarship.
Nya Bradshaw was the sole recipient for 2022. She was awarded a $5,000.00 scholarship.

Nya Danaye Bradshaw
Ms. Nya Bradshaw is a former student at West Potomac High school, Alexandria, VA. She plans to attend Hampton University in Hampton, Virginia. As a member of Oakland Baptist Church, Nya has been involved in the Cherubs Choir, Dance Ministry and Christmas Play. She is also a member of: the Black Student Union, College Partnership Program, & Future Business Leaders of America
Ms. Bradshaw’s counselor says: “Nya is a leader and not a follower. She knows who she is and what she stands for, and she challenges herself daily to become the best version of herself. She is passionate about her future, self-love, creating positive relationships, equality, balance, faith, Black history, progression, excellence, and positivity”. The program highlighted Nya’s achievements and aspirations. Several of the previous recipients provided updates and testimonials regarding their experiences since receiving the VBSF scholarship.
